"Berta Fischer's sculptures animate their surrounding space as abstract figures and react to the architectural features of the exhibition room. In doing so, their often outwards directed shapes are not generated through being carved out of a single block or through modelling, but rather by being cut out of a plane and bent and folded up into the space. In a plastic processing firm, the work pieces are heated strongly and formed into their final shape in only a few minutes. During that, the artist is acting as a conductor and closely instructs a group of assistants on how to shape the plane into the desired form. The speed of the work process can also be seen in the sometimes seemingly chaotic sculptures, since the heated material is easily formed but keeps a delicate consistency. Once brought into the devised shape it must be fixed in the exact position during the cooling-off period, else the sculpture collapses under its own weight."
